Ivorian Festival in Silver Spring Celebrates Independence and Culture (PHOTOS & VIDEO)

Thousands of residents and visitors came out for the Festival of Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) in Silver Spring on Sunday. The economic and cultural event was hosted by La Main Tendue which has organized this festival for the past seven years.

The Ivory Coast, located in West Africa, declared Independence from France August 7, 1960. The festival coincides with Independence Day and includes a fashion show, visit from officials including County Executive Ike Leggett and the Ivorian Ambassador to the United States, live music, traditional food, artwork, and games for youth.
