It’s a Busy Day at the Post Office
T’is the season! If you are going to the Post Office today, prepare to wait in line. The United States Postal Service predicts that today, Dec. 14, will be the busiest mailing and shipping days for holiday packages, letters and cards.
The busiest mailing day also is expected to be the Postal Service’s busiest day online with more than seven million customers predicted to visit usps.com.
“Customers can count on the Postal Service and our more than 600,000 dedicated employees to deliver their holiday gifts, cards and letters,” said Megan Brennan, Postmaster General and CEO. “We have been investing in our infrastructure including package sortation equipment, new delivery vehicles and scanning technology to expand our capacity, improve operating efficiency and provide real-time visibility.”
The shipping dates to remember for getting your cards and packages to their destination by Christmas are Dec. 15, Dec. 19, Dec. 21 and Dec. 23. Different rates apply for each shipping day.
According to USPS, next Monday, December 21, is expected to be the busiest delivery day for holiday packages, cards and letters. The Postal Service anticipates that more than 30 million packages will be delivered on that peak delivery day alone.
The Postal Service expects to deliver a total of approximately 15.5 billion cards, letters, flats, and packages during the 2015 holiday season.
