Baby Nathan Luong was born at 1:31 a.m. on Jan. 1st at Shady Grove Medical Center. His proud parents are Albert and Sandy Luong of Derwood.
UPDATED A Derwood family is celebrating the New Year with a new addition, and it’s a boy!
In fact, he’s the first baby born at Shady Grove Medical Center in 2016. Nathan Luong arrived at 1:31 a.m. on Jan. 1st and weighed in at 8 pounds and 12 ounces.
Both mom and baby are resting and doing well, and they are surrounded by friends and family.
“I am feeling great,” said the baby’s mom, Sandy, as she held her older son, 18-month-old Lucas, less than 12-hours after giving birth to Nathan with husband Albert at her side.
Sandy said she knew their baby was going to be born on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, as she was scheduled for an induction at the hospital on Jan. 31.
As for having two young boys at home now, Sandy joked, “I think my house is going to be upside down.”
The proud mom is excited about bringing home her New Year’s Day baby. “It’s a special gift for the family,” she said, as she wished reporters in her hospital room, “a happy New Year.”
Hospital officials said they are celebrating Nathan’s arrival, too.
“We are happy to welcome Shady Grove Medical Center’s first baby of 2016,” said Kathy Dallas, director of Women’s and Children’s Services. “We enjoy celebrating each of our new arrivals.”
As the first baby born at Shady Grove Hospital in 2016, Nathan and his parents received a traditional gift from the hospital – a large basket of gifts donated or made by the nurses in the Birth Center, including handmade towels, blankets, hats, booties and other baby essentials.
Nathan is one of the first babies born in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area in 2016.
