Initial Unemployment Claims Dropped Below 1,000 Last Week

The number of residents filing initial claims for unemployment in Montgomery County dipped below 1,000 during the week ending on Aug. 15.

Last week, 926 Montgomery County residents filed initial claims, which continued a decreasing trend. During the week ending on Aug. 8, 1,452 county residents had filed initial claims. There were 2,377 initial claims filed during the week ending on Aug. 1 by county residents, according to the Maryland Department of Labor. The prior week, 2,975 residents filed initial claims.

However, there was an increase statewide of more than 1,000 claims filed during the week that ended Aug. 15. During that week, 14,191 Marylanders filed initial claims. During the week ending on Aug. 8, 13,117 residents had filed initial unemployment claims.
