Ingleside’s “Caring Bag Lady” Delivers (PHOTOS)

retirement2When Caroline Touchton opens the front door of her third-floor apartment at Ingleside at King Farm, she’s never sure what she’ll find.

Since moving into the continuing care retirement community in 2009, residents regularly leave bags of clothing, furniture and other gently-used items by her door. Her neighbors know that Touchton, affectionately called the “caring bag lady,” will deliver their bags of donated items to a local charity.

“A lot of people here don’t drive, so I’m happy to deliver their donations,” says Touchton, who makes deliveries at least twice a month to the Interfaith Clothing Center and other donation sites. “I like being fuel efficient, so I wait until I have a car full to take over.”

The site of her 2000 Toyota Camry filled to the brim with donations amazes some residents. “When people see my car overflowing with bags, they warn me my old car won’t make it. I tell them ‘Watch me.’”
