Inaugural Summit to Focus on Latino Leadership

Latino Leadership Conference Feb 10 for FacebookThe Latino community, civic engagement, education and economic empowerment are among the topics that will be addressed during the inaugural Montgomery County Latino Leadership Summit at the Montgomery Community Media studios in Rockville on Feb. 10.

Montgomery County Councilmember Nancy Navarro and Fox News analyst Juan Williams are among the panelists scheduled to participate in the event which takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The 2010 Census results show the Latino community grew by 106 percent in Maryland, with more than half the growth in Montgomery County,” said Councilmember Navarro, who just completed a one-year term as the council’s first Latina president. “This event will explore a variety of issues of importance to the Latino Community. I am excited to share some of the efforts that I have worked on in order to promote the active participation of the Latino and immigrant communities.”

Councilmember Navarro and Mr. Williams will appear on a panel on “Civic Engagement and the Latino Community” from 11-11:45 a.m. The panel will be moderated by Nicole Quiroga, general manager of Telemundo WZDC. Others on the panel will include Maryland state Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez, and Alma Morales Riojas, President and CEO of MANA which states its mission as working to empower Latinas through leadership development, community service and advocacy.

The conference will be held in MCM “Studio A” at 7548 Standish Place in Rockville. The conference can be viewed as it is live streamed at archive.mymcmedia.org/latino. That link is available for use on mobile devices, computers, laptops, tablets, Android, iOS and Apple devices.
