Immigration 101 with League of Women Voters
The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County will sponsor an open meeting on “Immigration 101: Policies, Problems and Possibilities” at the Wheaton Library, 11701 Georgia Avenue, on Sept. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bethesda attorney Don Mooers will speak at the event and lead the discussion. The public is welcome. Bring a brown bag supper. Beverages and dessert will be provided.
Immigration is an emotional subject and debates about it strike a deep emotional chord. Yet most of us don’t have firsthand experience with the immigration system and don’t know what it involves. Immigration law is also notoriously complex, a virtual labyrinth of regulations, policies, directives and rulings.
Don Mooers, local attorney, founder and managing partner of Mooers Immigration and host of Public TV’s Montgomery Week in Review, will help demystify this complex subject. Mooers is a veteran of the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps, has worked in 92 countries and been involved in numerous community projects aimed at bridging the gap between the County’s various populations. He will bring to bear a career’s worth of savvy in addressing both policy and the nuts and bolts of the immigration system in real time.
