Jennifer Kahn Barlow first found her love for painting at the age of seven. Throughout her youth, college years, and career in the corporate world, Barlow continued to pursue her hobby through local art studios and on her own. Since the birth of her daughter in 2008, she has found a new passion and drive for her art, with her most recent body of work exploring tantalizing sweets. Her paintings of confectionaries distill precious moments from the normal chaos of daily life. Barlow is now the mother of two young children and time is the most elusive of all commodities. The indulgences rendered in oil on canvas serve as a reminder to decelerate and savor life’s sweetness. Barlow has won numerous awards, and her paintings have been exhibited in group shows throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and reside in many private collections. Currently, Barlow works out of her home studio in Potomac, while expanding her practice through workshops and community involvement. More of her work may be found at www.jkb-art.com.

While Susan La Mont is easily motivated to paint a landscape, her primary interest is genre painting through realism, portraying ordinary people in the business of living. Quiet moments of reflection, conversations in restaurants or on cell phones, studied concentration in the workplace – these are the images that strike a spark in her consciousness and excite her about the possibility of sharing them. She continues to refine her technique and to search for the best ways to communicate her ideas and the most intriguing images to celebrate our shared humanity. La Mont has a Doctorate in Education and a Master’s in Illustration. Her paintings have been exhibited in national and regional juried shows in 14 states and the District of Columbia. More of her work may be found at www.susanlamont.com.

Created by Jack Donnelly, the featured sculptures in this exhibit have been highly inspired by nature and the garden. Donnelly studied art at the Maryland Institute of Art and is a graduate of the University of Maryland. He is primarily a metalsmith, creating highly organic, sculptural pieces. Arts Entwine is the fine arts studio of Jack and Jaree Donnelly, currently artists-in-residence at the Arts Barn. The Donnelly’s exhibit their artwork throughout the region and their work may be found in private collections across the nation. Carol Vogel’s paintings dance with energy, color and form, with a remembrance for the classical style of the old masters. She especially enjoys painting portraits of people and pets and bringing their spirit to life on canvas. A love of collecting antiques and vintage glass and ceramics, along with a passion for travel to international locations, inspires her still life paintings. Vogel’s works reflect a mood and feeling, often with lush patterned backgrounds, vivid color and unusual combinations of supports and collectible items. Vogel works in pencil, charcoal, oil, and pastel mediums from her home studio. She is a member of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, the Portrait Society of America and Oil Painters of America, and was selected to be a copyist at the National Gallery of Art. Her paintings, which have been exhibited broadly, have won numerous awards. Vogel is on faculty at the Arts Barn and enjoys teaching and sharing her knowledge of painting and drawing with her students, who will be exhibiting works in the Invitational Gallery.
