ICC Dedicated to Former Governor Ehrlich

Gov. Larry Hogan dedicated the Intercounty Connector to his former boss, former Gov. Robert Ehrlich in a ceremony alongside the highway Thursday.

Hogan said that if it weren’t for Ehrlich, who made the ICC a top priority of his administration, the road would never have gotten built.

Ehrlich said the success was shared by a number of members of his cabinet, as well as Democrats who represented the county, specifically naming former county executive Doug Duncan and former state senator Jennie Forehand.

“Lots of Democrats and Republicans came together to get this done over long odds,” Ehrlich said.

“This is as good as government gets. This is good as people get,” he said. “True professionals coming together, getting something done against long odds to benefit the taxpayers and people of Maryland.”

Hogan said the Maryland Transportation Authority approved the dedication Thursday morning.

The ceremony took place near the Muncaster Mill Road bridge over the highway. About 65,000 motorists drive the highway every day, and in fiscal 2017, total tolls were more than $64 million, according to preliminary figures provided by the Maryland Transportation Authority.
