County Under Hyperthermia Alert Again on Tuesday

The county will be under another Hyperthermia Alert today, Tuesday, from noon to 7 p.m.

This alert means that the temperatures and/or the heat index of the county are predicted to reach 95 degrees or higher, according to the county. A Hyperthermia Alert was also issued Monday from noon to 7 p.m. 

The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security suggests taking safety precautions in this type of heat; this includes staying indoors when possible, avoiding strenuous activity in the sun, drinking water, avoiding alcohol or caffeine, wearing sun protection and not leaving pets, children or elderly individuals in a vehicle.

Knowing the signs of harmful heat exposure is also recommended by the county. Heat exhaustion, cramps or stroke can cause muscle spasms, dizziness, nausea, cool, pale or moist skin, headaches and more. 

The county also encourages taking special care of individuals at a higher risk of heat stroke or exhaustion. This can include infants and children up to four years old, individuals 65 or older, individuals with illnesses and people who are overweight.
