Hundreds of Local Fourth Graders to Attend Children’s Water Festival

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission will welcome 650 fourth graders for the 9th annual Children’s Water Festival on May 7 and 8 in Brookeville. 

Students from Laytonsville and Sargent Shriver elementary schools in Montgomery County and students from Accokeek, Carrollton, Chillum, Longfields, Mt. Ranier, Robert Goddard French Immersion and Tayac elementary schools in Prince Georges County will take part in the event.

Thirteen activities will teach the water cycle, wetlands, aquatic life, human health and the value of water. For example, Bucket Brigade is an obstacle course that challenges children to accumulate 70 gallons of water, the amount of water each person uses per day. The Hydrologic Game involves all 650 students at once in a Jeopardy-style competition.

Other visuals include the Fish Mobile from Phillips Wharf Environmental Center, and an animal display and other items from The National Aquarium in Baltimore.
