Human Remains Found in Brookeville, Police Say

A man walking his dogs discovered what police believe to be human remains in a wooded area in Brookeville, Montgomery County police said in a statement.

About 5:15 p.m. Sunday, the man called police to say he had been walking his dogs in the woods and found what he believed to be human bones, police said. Wheaton District officers responded to the area, in the 19500 block of Georgia Avenue, and found a shallow grave that contained skeletal remains, police said.

Major Crimes Detectives believe the person is an adult who has been dead for less than a year.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will complete an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, police said.

Police called this is an active and ongoing investigation; more details will be released as they become available.
