Firefighters Battle House Fire in Damascus (PHOTOS)
Montgomery County firefighters are investigating what ignited a house fire at 9505 Main Street in Damascus on Saturday night.
Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer said 85 firefighters battled the blaze at the two-story structure, including firefighters from Howard, Frederick and Carroll counties.
Before firefighters arrived on scene, Piringer said an occupant in the house jumped from a second floor window to escape the flames.
He said smoke alarms alerted the occupant of the fire.
According to Piringer, four residents, including a child, are displaced from the house because of the extent of damage. He said damages are estimated at $250,000.
Piringer said the house is believed to be between 80 and 100 years old. So far, there’s no word on what sparked the blaze. Piringer said the cause is believed to be accidental, and has been ruled “undetermined.”
