A house fire displaced a family of six in Potomac on Monday morning, according to a Montgomery County fire and rescue official.

Spokesperson Pete Piringer said the blaze originated in the basement of a large house in the 9900 block of Potomac Manors Drive.

When firefighters arrived on scene, Piringer said there was smoke showing. He said it took approximately 45 firefighters to extinguish the blaze. According to Piringer, the fire began in a supply room with construction materials. He said the exact cause remains under investigation but it is believed to be accidental.

According to Piringer, the residents evacuated the house and there were no injuries. Piringer said the family’s housekeeper closed some doors on the way out which minimized the spread of the fire greatly.

He said damages are estimated at $115,000.
