Holy Cross Students are Latest in Growing List Detailing Stories of Racism

The Academy of the Holy Cross students join others, including those at Walter Johnson High School and Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, in sharing personal experiences with racism at their school, on Instagram.

The account, “blackatahc,” is “an anonymous space for black members of the AHC community to share their stories,” according to the account’s bio. There is a Google form for students to submit their experiences, and the account has shared a little over 100  stories so far.

MyMCMedia reached out to the account, and they responded saying: “Our goal is to show the AHC community that there is still a long way to go in order for the Academy to truly show its commitment to diversity and inclusion. We hope to work with the administration in order to bring positive and tangible change for all of its students, no matter their background.”

The school administration told MyMCMedia, through an email: “our president, Katy Prebble, has had several meetings via Zoom with our alumnae of color and others who are encouraging the administration to be more proactive in its pursuit to create an environment that values all students and to serve as a place where we learn to appreciate and understand our differences and build a community that is safe and supportive for all.”

This account, which has amassed over 700 followers, shares stories from both current students and alumni, similar to what other schools have done in the area. MyMCMedia covered the other accounts in an article when they were created a few weeks ago.
