Holy Cross Health Appoints Four New Board Members (PHOTOS)

Holy Cross Health announces the appointment of Carmen Larsen, Marilyn Moon, Ph.D., Sister Kathleen Reilly, C.S.C, and Marcus Shipley to its Board of Directors.

Sexton, president and CEO of Holy Cross Health. “Their focus and dedication compliments the exceptional and accomplished group of board members already in place, we are grateful for their service.”

Carmen Larsen is a scientist and entrepreneur with significant community involvement related to supporting the well being and participation of members of the minority communities in education and significant public and private positions. She is President of AQUAS, Inc., Bethesda, Md., which delivers services in management consulting, technology integration, and infrastructure engineering. Ms. Larsen has managed small businesses since 1979, and was previously a Principal at AMS Inc./CGI and SRA International Corporation. She is the recipient of a Baltimore Girl Scouts Women of Distinction award, was recognized by Maryland State delegate Herman Taylor for her work with the minority business community, and served on the Maryland Governor’s small business task force. She serves as the Chair of the Board of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and of the Hispanic Business Foundation. She holds a university degree in Physics from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., and has undertaken studies in international law, business and management at American University, Northwestern University, and Dartmouth University. Ms. Larsen joined the Holy Cross Health Board of Directors in 2016.

Marilyn Moon is an Institute Fellow at the American Institutes for Research and director of its Center on Aging. From 2003 through 2013, she directed the Health Program at AIR. Her current work focuses on informing consumers, providers and policy makers about health care issues, delivery system innovations, and approaches to Medicare reform. A nationally-known health economist, Moon has also served as a senior fellow at the Urban Institute and as a public trustee for the Social Security and Medicare trust funds. From 2008 through 2012, she chaired the Maryland Health Care Commission. She has been an associate professor of economics at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, a senior analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, and the founding director of the Public Policy Institute of AARP. Moon earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She joined the Holy Cross Health Board of Directors in 2016.

Sister Kathleen Reilly, C.S.C., is retired from a long career in health ministry from 1982-2015, most recently as vice president of mission integration at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital in Anderson, Ind. Previously she served as vice president for special projects and Holy Cross Resources and vice president for mission of Holy Cross Health System, as Secretariat Director for Pastoral and Community Services for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, as vice president for marketing and planning for Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, and held other administrative positions at Saint John’s Health System (now named St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital). She also previously served on the Holy Cross Health Board of Directors from 1999-2005 and served as chair of key board committees, including Finance and the predecessor committee of Mission and Population Health. She serves on the Quality and Patient Safety Committee.

Marcus Shipley leads Trinity Information Services (TIS) as Chief Information Officer. He provides direction and oversight for information technology that supports Trinity Health’s strategic imperatives for improving quality of care, patient safety and financial performance. He is responsible for developing and implementing information system strategies across Trinity Health, one of the nation’s largest Catholic health care systems. Prior to joining Trinity Health, Shipley worked for CIGNA, a health services organization, where he served as Vice President Information Technology, IT Infrastructure and Operations. He served at Fidelity, where he was Chief Information Officer of HR Services; Claims Desk Corporation, where he was Chief Technology Officer; and United Services Automobile Association, where he began his career as a programmer/ systems analyst. Shipley earned both an MBA and a BBA in Information Technology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He joined the Holy Cross Health Board of Directors as the Corporate Representative in 2016 and serves on the Executive & Governance Committee.
