Hogan, Schwarzenegger at Supreme Court: ‘We Must Terminate Gerrymandering’
Gov. Larry Hogan joined former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) on the steps of the Supreme Court Tuesday to discuss their support for “terminat[ing] gerrymandering.” This comes moments before the Supreme Court will review a case of Republican gerrymandering in North Carolina and a case of Democratic gerrymandering in Maryland.
According to WJZ-13, earlier this month, Hogan and Schwarzenegger filed a joint “amicus curiae brief with the United States Supreme Court in support of the plaintiffs in Benisek v. Lamone. the case involving Maryland’s gerrymandering 6th Congressional District.”
Schwarzenegger said before the Supreme Court that he’d like to see an “independent redistricting commission,” like the one they have in California in every state.
“We must terminate gerrymandering because this game has been going on too long,” said Schwarzenegger, who starred in the “Terminator” movies.
Hogan echoed Schwarzenegger’s sentiment.
“Look this is not a fight between the right and the left. This is a fight between right and wrong. This isn’t a fight between Republicans and Democrats. This is a fight for our very democracy,” said Hogan.
