Hogan Says He Will Not Deploy National Guard Resources to the Border

Governor Hogan announced on Twitter early Tuesday that he will not deploy any National Guard Resources to the border.  His response comes amid reports that children are being separated from their parents after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

Hogan said he ordered four crew-members and helicopters to return to Maryland immediately from where they were stationed in New Mexico.  Hogan said on Twitter that, “Congress and the administration must step up and work together to fix our broken system. Immigration enforcement efforts should focus on criminals, not separating innocent children from their families.”

A report from the Associated Press stated that more than 2,000 children have been taken from their parents as a result of President Donald Trump’s policies on immigration.

Until this policy of separating children from their families has been rescinded, Maryland will not deploy any National Guard resources to the border.
