Hogan Renews Commitment to Environmental Education For Maryland’s Youth
Governor Larry Hogan signed an executive order on Thursday to promote outdoor learning for Maryland youth titled, “Project Green Classrooms,” according to a news release.
This new executive order will allow youth to learn more about their local environment through educational programming by Maryland schools, communities and public lands.
“As we work together to protect the Chesapeake Bay we also must find new, innovative ways to engage our youth,” Hogan released in a statement. “Project Green Classrooms will continue Maryland’s national leadership in educating and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.”
A panel of experts was established by the executive order to facilitate opportunities for youth to spend more time outdoors. The group will serve as an advisory board in making recommendations for environmental education programs.
The goal is to help create outdoor learning experiences to not only teach students about the environment, but to get them physically active outdoors and to get them started on possible careers.
