Hogan Orders Flags at Half-Staff for Fallen Firefighter
Gov. Larry Hogan has ordered the United States Flag and the Maryland State flag to be lowered to half-staff to honor Firefighter Michael Powers of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department, who died in the line of duty Tuesday. The flags will be raised to full staff at sunset, Saturday, June 29, the day of interment.

According to the Carroll County Times, Powers died Tuesday while responding to a fatal crash on Route 26 in Frederick County. Powers was helping clear debris when he experienced a medical emergency and was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Hogan released the following statement:
“Michael Powers dedicated more than 50 years of his life to firefighting and saving lives. He had a great passion for serving his community. We will honor Firefighter Powers’ memory and remember his sacrifice as we mourn with his loved ones and his fellow firefighters.”
