Hogan Announces Creation of “Regulatory Reform Commission” (VIDEO)
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan held a news conference on July 9 in Annapolis and announced the creation of a Regulatory Reform Commission to make Maryland more business friendly.
Hogan also talked about jobs and rollback on taxes.
“The entire focus of our administration is on making Maryland open for business. …. We’ve already repealed the rain tax. We’ve provided tax relief for retirees and already implemented a two hundred and seventy million dollar cash toll rollback,” Hogan said.
During the conference, Hogan announced an executive order to create the Regulatory Reform Commission, which will be in charge of reviewing Maryland’s business regulations.
“Our entire administration has already been working on a complete tax reform and tax restructure plan. As we have repeatedly said with the cooperation of the legislature our goal is to rollback as many of the forty tax increases as we possibly can,” Hogan said.
The commission will hold public hearings everywhere in the state and it will then submit recommendations with the goal “of removing barriers to attract new businesses” and retain the ones that are already in Maryland.
“We promise a top to bottom review of all state regulations … to make sure that Maryland can once again operate with a fair, accountable and balanced regulatory plan,” he said.
The governor said the commission will review and analyze areas included but not limited to transportation, environment, land use, health care, business occupation and licensing, banking and financial services, insurance, labor, agriculture and more.
One of the co-chairs is Montgomery County resident James Soltesz.
Soltesz was appointed in conjunction with Abba Poliakoff to assist Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford in leading the commission, according to a news release.
Soltesz is the CEO of Soltesz- an engineering firm in Rockville. According to the company’s website, he has supported businesses in long-term strategy and implemented long and short-term plans.
“It is an honor and a pleasure to accept this appointment by Governor Hogan and Lieutenant Governor Rutherford. I, and the commission, will work diligently and intensely to transform the regulatory environment in the State to foster significant job growth and prosperity for all Marylanders,” he wrote in a statement.
