High Winds Cause Damage, Power Outages Across the County

Emergency crews received more than 100 calls across the county Friday evening regarding weather-related incidents.

Between the hours of 5-6:30 p.m., fire and EMS personnel were called for numerous brush fires, collisions, and fallen trees due to high winds and inclement weather.

According to the National Weather Service, gusts of more than 50 miles per hour were recorded in the county.

Fallen trees brought down or damaged multiple powerlines across the county leaving around 4,776 homes without power on Friday afternoon.

As of Saturday afternoon, around 352 homes were still without power. Pepco is actively working to resolve these power issues.
