Montgomery County Parks announce the closure of  all natural surface trails in local parks due to the recent heavy rains.

Dangerous conditions along the trails may result from the heavy rainfall in the forecast, according to park officials.

The trails are closed until further notice. Montgomery Parks maintains more than 170 miles of natural surface trails in Montgomery County.

Casey Anderson, chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board, said, “Many people don’t realize that using wet and muddy trails isn’t just potentially dangerous, it seriously damages the trails making them impassable for other users even after they’ve dried out. Our staff and volunteers work very hard to build and maintain an extensive trail network that serves thousands of park users, so we’re getting the word out: please stay off the trails until conditions improve.”

Montgomery Parks will continue to provide weather related updates at www.MontgomeryParks.org, on their Facebook page, and Twitter account. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for most of Montgomery County through Friday, July 27.

Additional Montgomery Parks facilities closed Tuesday include the Mountain Bike and BMX Pump Track at South Germantown Recreational Park, the miniature train at Cabin John Regional Park and miniature train and carousel at Wheaton Regional Park.
