High Rise Stair Climb to Honor 9/11 Victims
Residents can climb in honor and remembrance of the 343 firefighters and 71 police officers who died trying to save lives during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The event is the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Sept. 5 at 9 a.m. at the North Bethesda Market Tower.

“Nobody at that event says it’s easy. But we encourage civilians to participate. …This not a race; you really couldn’t race 110 stories … It’s a walk,” said Montgomery County Firefighter Thomas Monahan, one of the event’s organizer.
Monahan said this is the fourth of this event and fire and law enforcement officials are encouraged to climb 110 stories in their work gear. While civilians can participate with [physical training] attire.
There is a $25 registration fee, and all money raised will be donated to the Firefighters Burn Foundation.
“For over the years, I’ve done a lot of fundraisers for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. … And I wanted to do something for [9/11],” Monahan said.
Monahan said North Market Tower is currently the tallest building in Montgomery County.
This event is also hosted by the International Association of Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation and Montgomery County L1664.

The event begins at 9 a.m., but organizers ask participants to arrive 30 minutes prior to the event.
