Heroin Use on the Rise In Montgomery County (VIDEO)
As the Maryland General Assembly heads into session in Annapolis Jan. 14, Governor-elect Larry Hogan has said he plans to put resources statewide into battling what he has called a “heroin epidemic.”
Montgomery County Police Capt. Darren Francke spoke to MyMCMedia about the incidences of heroin use in Montgomery County. Francke said the county is experiencing an “uptick” in the number of suspected heroin overdoses in the county over the past two-and-a-half months. Francke said he would like to see the General Assembly in Maryland enact a law that would mimic a federal controlled dangerous substance distribution charge that comes with an enhanced penalty when that distribution leads to death.
He talks about the legislation in this MyMCMedia Extra.
Francke said he’s hoping to eliminate scenes like this one in Wheaton he described seeing recently to MyMCMedia where two heroin users overdosed and died.
