Here’s How to Celebrate Cherry Blossom Season

Each spring, residents across the DMV look forward to Cherry Blossom season. The colder temperatures over the last few weeks have delayed the trees peak bloom, but the National Park Service predicts peak bloom will start on April 8.

Despite the delay, there are activities planned all month long:

Blossom Kite Festival-  Mar.31 (Free)

  • This event will be held at the Washington Monument. The Blossom Kite Festival includes competitive battle and tricks competitions, and the opportunity for visitors to bring their own kites on site.

PetalPalooza- April 7 (Free)

  • This event will be hosted  in the Wharf area, formerly known as the Southwest Waterfront. The festival includes a range of entertainment and dining options capped by evening fireworks along the waterfront.

National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. April 14. Standing room is free; stadium seating requires tickets.

  • The parade runs along Constitution Avenue between the National Archives building and the Washington Monument and features performers, marching bands, giant balloons, and floats, many related to the general cherry blossom theme.
