Rex Smith, president and CEO of Hearts and Homes for Youth (HHY), talks about how the organization over the past 50 years has helped shelter and counsel more than 30,000 abused, neglected, homeless and troubled children, from newborns to 21 years of age, through a variety of residential and supportive programs.
The organization, which began in Rockville and is now based in Silver Spring, offers counseling, advocacy, educational support, workforce readiness and life skills training as it provides a safe and supportive environment.
Councilmember Valerie Ervin presented a proclamation on behalf of the Council on Oct. 8 to help HHY celebrate its 50th anniversary.
