Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for Wheaton Redevelopment Project

UPDATED: Groundbreaking to redevelop parts of Wheaton is set for Sunday June 4 during the annual Taste of Wheaton celebration.
The Wheaton Revitalization Project will provide a government office building, an underground parking garage, and a new town square for residents which includes a public park of approximately 35,000 square feet, according to a news release.
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett is expected to join Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner and Councilmember Nancy Navarro for the groundbreaking ceremony.
“Wheaton’s time is now,” said Councilmember Navarro in a statement. “The groundbreaking for the redevelopment of Lot 13 is a pivotal moment in the revitalization of Wheaton.”
The new development aims to improve mobility, increase the Wheaton Metro Station use, reduce traffic congestion and increase the diversity of employment opportunities, according to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Division of Parking Management.
“We have been working collaboratively with residents, policymakers, the business community, and other stakeholders to make Wheaton […] a great place to live, work and play.”
The ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. on the intersection of Grandview Avenue and Reedie Drive in Wheaton.
