Grocery Stores Rush to Stock Shelves After Blizzard (PHOTOS)
Across Montgomery County residents continue to dig out of a historic blizzard that dumped nearly 40 inches of snow in some areas. Those who were able to get out, found empty shelves at some Montgomery County grocery stores, which made picking up essentials a difficult task.
Grocers are working hard this week to replenish store shelves for customers. Deliveries have started leaving warehouses around the region after workers were unable to make it to work due to road conditions.
Craig Muckle is a spokesperson for Safeway stores in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
“We’re making progress. This is a bit of chain reaction. Obviously once the roads got impassable, that hindered our ability to deliver,” Muckle said. “Much like businesses and government, part of our challenge is that today is the first day we have a full staff of employees able to get back to warehouse…Not every employee having a role at the distribution center was able to get there,” Muckle said.
Giant also had it’s fair share of slowed deliveries to stores during the blizzard. Jamie Miller is a spokesperson for Giant.
“Deliveries started going out to our stores yesterday and have continued throughout today. We’ll continue to ship product out to all of our stores throughout the week as we restock our shelves following this past weekends historic storm,” Miller said.
Shoppers took to social media to vent about their shopping experiences during the blizzard.
