County’s 4th Annual GreenFest Set for Saturday, May 5 in Silver Spring

GreenFest, a May 5 event at Jesup Blair Local Park in Silver Spring, will provide Montgomery County residents a chance to learn how they can go green in the coming year, according to Susan Kornacki, with the county’s Department of Environmental Protection.

“We will have all kinds of hands-on learning opportunities,” Kornacki said.

Workshops include backyard beekeeping, canning, container gardening and finding a green job. A series of 10 minute presentations on lawn care, trees, bike repair, and planting native flowers.

The department anticipates 800 or 1,000 people, she said.

The Montgomery County GreenFest is planned by a coalition of partners: the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, Montgomery Parks, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, the cities of Gaithersburg, Takoma Park and Rockville; University of Maryland Extension, Montgomery College, Montgomery County Public Schools, and three local community green groups: Bethesda Green, One Montgomery Green, and Poolesville Green.
