Grant Would Pay to Develop Route Connecting Shady Grove, Metropolitan Grove

Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation received a $60,000 grant to prepare a short-range transit plan connecting the Shady Grove Metro Station to the Metropolitan Grove MARC Station.

The grant comes from the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board. No bus lines connect Shady Grove and Metropolitan Grove, which are about 6 or 7 miles apart. The funding will help establish a preferred transit routing and service plan.

The Corridor Cities Transitway, which is part of the Great Seneca Science Master Plan, will serve the two stops. However, CCT funding has not been identified.

Until the CCT becomes operational, a short-term transit plan would assess ways to connect commuters using the Watkins Mill interchange of I-270, which is currently under construction, to the MARC Metropolitan Grove Station and Park and Ride Lot. Implementation of the transit plan is expected to begin in 2020 when the interchange is scheduled to be completed.
