Gov. Hogan Signs School Safety Bill into Law

Gov. Larry Hogan signed legislation Tuesday aimed to improve the safety in the State’s public schools.

Sponsored by State Senator Katherine Klausmeier (D-Baltimore), the Maryland Safe to Learn Act of 2018 will increase funding designed to improve the safety of the State’s public schools.

The bill, which goes into effect on June 1 this year, enhances the presence of school resource officers and local law enforcement in public schools, and requires school SROs to complete specialized training.

“No mom or dad should ever have to worry when they send their kids off to school whether their son or daughter is going to come home safely,” Hogan said.  “I want to thank legislators on both sides of the aisle for coming together and working with us to make our schools safer.”
