Got Milk? (Photos)

Montgomery County farmer David Weitzer raised a toast of bottled chocolate milk on March 19 as the Montgomery County Council saluted the county’s farmers as part of the celebration of National Agriculture Day.

In 1981, Montgomery created its Agricultural Reserve—which has been called the country’s most successful farmland preservation program as it protects 93,000 acres of farmland and open space.

The Agricultural Reserve is home to 561 farms and 350 horticultural businesses.

Among those at the ceremonies in Rockville were, left to right: County Council President Nancy Navarro; Tony Cohen of the Button Farm historic site in Germantown; Councilmember Roger Berliner; local farmers Lonnie Luther, Billy Willard and Jamie Jamison; and Council Vice President Craig Rice.
