Got Leftover Halloween Candy?
Wondering where to donate your leftover Halloween candy?
The Manna Food Center is encouraging residents to donate their candy to Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages to the troops.
After most holidays, Manna receives an influx of leftover treats, including candy, cakes and cookies, and the donations result in more non-nutritious food than Manna can handle.
For example, Jenna Umbriac, director of programs at Manna Food Center, said one person donated over 400 pounds of loose candy last year.
To get the word out that Manna is not accepting donations of candy, Manna has posted the following messages, stressing the importance of providing healthy and nutritious food to neighbors in need, on its Twitter account:
Manna depends on the generosity of #MoCo 4 much of the #healthy food we distribute to our neighbors. Skip the candy, instead canned veggy! pic.twitter.com/aaz1Sp2tNz
