Our Lady of Good Counsel’s Caitlyn Johannes has earned the prestigious Silver Trefoil Award, symbolizing an outstanding commitment to and investment in service to their community.

The Silver Trefoil Award is presented by the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital, recognizing over 100 hours of community service in three categories: Girl Scout community, national service, and global service, according to a release from Good Counsel.

Caitlyn completed 128 volunteer hours by supporting organizations and groups like Wreaths Across America, Montgomery County Future Vote, Special Olympics, Manna Food and Mother Seton Catholic Church. Her Girl Scout community hours were invested in being a counselor at Girl Scout summer camp and supporting a younger troop with their fundraising activities.

“My most meaningful service was on a Girl Scout trip to Costa Rica, where we painted a local school. At the end of that day, I had made a literal and figurative mark on the school, and made a difference in the lives of those 100 children,” said Caitlyn in the press release.

Caitlyn has been a Girl Scout for nine years, a member of Troop 3288, based in Potomac. In addition to her community service contributions, Caitlyn has helped raise enough money through cookie sales and troop fundraising events to travel with her troop to Iceland and the UK in the summer of 2015, according to the news release.
