Glenmont Sector Plan Update
The Montgomery County Council’s Planning, Housing and Economic Development (PHED) Committee will continue its discussions on the Glenmont Sector Plan at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 17. The worksession will address historic preservation concerns, affordable housing and property specific recommendations.
Later, at 1:30 p.m. in the Seventh Floor Hearing Room, the PHED Committee will continue its extensive review of the first proposed major changes in the County Zoning Ordinance since 1978.
Among the items to be discussed at the work session are parking regulations within parking lot districts and proposed standards for non-residential buildings that are located in residential zones.
The PHED Committee, which is chaired by Nancy Floreen and includes Councilmembers Marc Elrich and George Leventhal, will meet in the Seventh Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville. The meeting will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery (CCM—Cable Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN, Channel 30 on Verizon).
The PHED meeting will be broadcast with closed captioning in English and Spanish.
The PHED Committee has been meeting regularly since June to review the changes in the zoning ordinance that have been suggested by the County’s Planning Board. The committee will use the worksessions to make recommendations to the full Council, which will eventually decide what changes will be implemented.
The current schedule for the Zoning Rewrite will have the PHED Committee wrap up its work on proposed changes on September 27. A second public hearing on the recommended changes will be held later this fall on a date to be determined. The full Council is scheduled to begin addressing the Zoning Rewrite in January.
