Girard Street Fire Causes $100,000 Damage in Gaithersburg (PHOTOS)
Montgomery County firefighters battled an early morning blaze at a four-story apartment building at 410 Girard Street on March 28.
Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer said the fire occurred near a balcony at the Villa Ridge condominium building in Olde Towne Gaithersburg.
Piringer described the fire department’s efforts to battle the blaze as a “firefight,” and he said dozens of residents were evacuated from their homes during the department’s response.
According to Piringer, the fire was sparked by discarded smoking material. He said damage is estimated at $100,000 and three residents have been displaced. Piringer said there were no injuries.
