Giant Food Drives Bring Winter Relief (Video)
Manna Food Center and Giant Food stores in Montgomery County teamed up again over the MLK weekend to hold our annual MLK Food Drive. The amazing response from the community has kept our drivers busy all week picking up your donations from Giant stores. County Executive Ike Leggett came out to the Wheaton Giant on Saturday to pump up volunteers and help gather donations. Despite the cold weather, the community came together to help stock our shelves for the coming months. Thousands of pounds of food have already rolled in over our scales, and volunteers in the warehouse are hard at work sorting and distributing the food to our hungry neighbors.
Giant and Manna partner three times a year to give everyone in the community an easy way to support the fight against hunger. While shopping for your groceries, Manna volunteers will provide you with a list of healthy choices for our clients. Once food is purchased, it’s easy to drop it off with volunteers at each entrance, and the food is delivered back to Manna for immediate use.
The next county-wide food drive will be on July 27 & 28 at all 27 county Giant Food stores. You can volunteer to help collect food or read our healthy food drive wishlist in advance and plan your shopping trip today!
