Germantown Pulse to ‘Drastically Cut Back’ Publication

The Germantown Pulse will “drastically cut back” publication on July 31, ending an online publication that provided upcounty readers with news and sports.
Pulse editor Kevin O’Rourke made the announcement Friday. July 31, by the way, is just a week past the website’s fifth anniversary.
“It greatly pains me to take this step and stop producing the Germantown Pulse,” O’Rourke writes in his farewell editorial.
“The last five years have been nothing short of amazing. I have met and befriended so many neighbors and community leaders through my work on the Pulse. I began the Pulse with a vision of building a community. I hoped to bring Germantown’s neighborhoods together as a virtual town square where residents could gather to learn about and discuss important topics, to encourage and highlight residents making a difference in our corner of the world, to cheer on and enjoy local high school athletes making their communities proud on and off the field, to share the joy in learning of local folks doing amazing things on the regional and national stage.”
O’Rourke talked about the difficulties of producing local news on the MCM podcast, “Montgomery Talks,” in January. What was important, he said, was for a publication to know its audience.
“Until you need to know, you don’t need to know,” O’Rouke said.
For now, O’Rourke said he would be coaching football for St. John’s Catholic Prep in Buckeystown.
