Germantown Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Sept. 10 in Gaithersburg.

Police said at approximately 1:42 p.m., 6th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Longdraft Road for a report of a personal injury collision involving a motorcycle. The  investigation revealed that a 2001 Suzuki SV650s motorcycle was traveling northbound on Great Seneca Highway approaching Longdraft Road.  Police said a 1998 BMW 528i was traveling southbound on Great Seneca Highway and attempted to make a left hand turn on to Longdraft Road in front of the motorcycle.  According to police, the motorcycle collided with the passenger side door of the BMW, and the motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle.

An off-duty Montgomery County police officer came upon the collision just after it occurred and rendered first aid, along with a citizen, to the motorcyclist.

Police said the motorcyclist was transported to Shady Grove Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The motorcyclist is identified as Michael George Balcom, age 24, of Germantown.  The driver of the BMW is identified as Toney Williams Moses, age 67, of  Gaithersburg.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301.840.2435.  Callers may remain anonymous.
