Germantown Fire Under Investigation
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched about 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 15 for the report of an apartment fire on Pickering Court in Germantown.
Firefighters arrived on the scene of a three-story, garden style apartment complex with heavy smoke and fire conditions and fire reported through the roof of the building. Additional units and resources were requested including the dispatch of a second alarm.
Officials said the fire severely damaged six apartments and over twenty occupants were displaced. The American Red Cross assisted families displaced by the fire. Fire investigators were called to the scene and currently list the cause of the fire as undetermined. The fire remains under investigation.
Damage estimates are $250,000 to the structure and $50,000 to contents.
Fire officials said there were no civilian injuries, one firefighter was transported with minor injuries and has been treated and released, and one dog is reported to have perished in the fire. At the height of firefighting operations, over 75 firefighters were on the scene.
