GBF Update (Photos)

Just back from an exciting day at the Gaithersburg Book Festival. The weather may not have been perfect but Montgomery County area book lovers didn’t seem to mind.

My coworkers at Montgomery Community Media rock! If they were manning our booth or working behind the cameras, they always (even when it’s raining) have a smile on their face. The same sentiment holds true for all the Gaithersburg staff and volunteers. This festival is extraordinary and it is a great experience to be working alongside such dedicated professionals.

As for the festival, there’s a lot to recap as the programing for this event is rich. Meeting King Peggy was certainly a highlight for me. In case you don’t know her, she is a Silver Spring woman who was named the King of an impoverished fishing village (Otuam) on the west coast of Africa. During our interview, she noted that her story is being made into a movie and Queen Latifah will play the title role. Look for video and more about this unforgettable story next week.

In the meantime, here are a few photos from today’s event. We will post more photos and videos next week, too. Finally, I’d like to ask you a favor. If you were at the Book Festival today, I would love to know what the highlight was for you (post a comment below) and if you took any photos please share them with us at pix@mymcmedia.org.
