
Gas Leak Closes Roadways and Forces Evacuations of Some Homes in Silver Spring
UPDATED Montgomery County police and firefighters were called to the scene of a gas leak on Thayer Avenue between Nolte Avenue and Houston Street in Silver Spring on Dec. 18.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a dozen homes were evacuated in the vicinity of the incident before the leak was capped. He said the break occurred when construction workers struck a four-inch gas line in the area.
Police were advising residents to expect delays in the area because of the road closures during the response period.
So far, no word on injuries.
