Riderwood, the Erickson Living retirement community, named Gary D. Hibbs as its Executive Director.

With Erickson Living since 1995, Hibbs has most recently served as the Executive Director of Oak Crest, a sister community located in northeastern Baltimore County.

In his new leadership position at Riderwood, Hibbs will oversee daily operations at the 120-acre community whose 2,600 residents are served by 1,400 employees.

“This is a homecoming for Gary as he was raised in nearby Greenbelt and his parents, Ray and Shirley, lived at Riderwood,” stated Chip Warner, Vice President of Regional Operations for Erickson Living. “His professional life has been dedicated to not only serving the residents of Erickson Living but also advocating for older adults across the nation. Riderwood will continue to thrive as a place where our residents live better lives, in part because of Gary’s dedication to our mission.”

At Erickson Living, Hibbs has also been a Regional Executive Director and Executive Director of communities in Michigan and New Jersey. Previously, he served as administrator of Wellington Manor, a long-term care facility in Clinton.

Hibbs has worked with older adults in both local and national arenas, having served with the Area Agency on Aging in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties and the Senior Citizens Law Project. He also worked with Congressman Claude Pepper as a staff member for the House Aging Committee’s Subcommittee on Health and Long Term Care.

Hibbs, who holds M.S.W. and J.D. degrees from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, has been a certified L.G.S.W. and a member of the Maryland Bar. He received his nursing home administrator’s license while with Global Health Management and has been licensed in the states of Maryland and Michigan. Additionally, Hibbs maintained membership in the American College of Health Care Administrators.

Currently, he is an adjunct professor for the Erickson School of Aging at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in Catonsville with a focus on management and policy within the Master’s program.

Married to Jennifer “Jenne” Bauhofer of Goldsboro, North Carolina, the couple is active at Crossroads Community Church. Residents of Sykesville, they have four children: Anneliese, Taylor, Garlyn and Nathanael.

    John,

I know you have generators at Riderwood, in Beltsville/Silver Spring. Gary Hibbs, a Greenbelt guy, who your brother, Steve, and I know, has recently been named executive director. He oversees 1,400 employees.

Steve may be able to help you drum up some more business. If you want me to assist let me know.
