Gang Activity Blamed for Two Recent Deaths
The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office confirmed Thursday that the two men whose bodies were found in county parks died as a result of gang activity.
Ramon Korionoff, a spokesman for the office, provided little about the case. He said prosecutors are still awaiting information on the cause of death.
“As the cases get further developed and details play out in court, you’ll find that there are people who have allegiances to different active concerns,” Korionoff said.
Bethesda Beat first reported that prosecutors believe gangs killed the two men.
The body of a man was found Sept. 5 in Wheaton Regional Park, police said. He was believed to have been dead for six to 10 months, police said.
Neither the name of the man nor the cause of death were released.
Another body was found Sept. 7 in Long Branch-Arliss Neighborhood Park, near 8800 Garland Avenue in Silver Spring. Police said his identity was Cristopher Alfredo Funes Guerra, 20, of University Boulevard East in Silver Spring. The death was ruled a homicide.
“We are working through this investigation. We’ll keep the public posted on any new developments,” he said.
