Gaithersburg to Host Public Forum on Voting Methods for 2021 Election

The Board of Supervisors of Elections (BOSE) invites Gaithersburg residents to participate in a Virtual Election Forum, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. The forum will measure residents’ preferences on voting for the 2021 Gaithersburg Municipal Election.

Gaithersburg voters will cast their ballots for mayor and two city councilmembers on Nov. 2, 2021.

Following the 2019 Gaithersburg election, BOSE, which is authorized to oversee all Gaithersburg elections, held a meeting with the Gaithersburg mayor and city council where they discussed voter turnout issues and conducting fair elections. Afterwards, BOSE was going to explore mail-in voting options for the 2021 Gaithersburg elections, according to the press release. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the national 2020 general election also put a focus on different options other than in-person voting.

To participate and speak in the meeting register online on the city of Gaithersburg’s website. The meeting will also be televised on Comcast Channel 27, available countywide, and on RCN Channel 13 and Verizon Channel 25, available within City limits only. It will also be live-streamed on the city of Gaithersburg’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
