Gaithersburg Student Wins Essay Contest
Each year the Maryland Municipal League (MML), in partnership with the Maryland Mayors’ Association, Injured Workers’ Insurance Fund and Local Government Insurance Trust, hosts the “If I Were Mayor…” essay contest for fourth graders throughout the state of Maryland. The theme this year was “Vision for the Future.”
More than 2,400 essays were received by the MML, and winners from each of the eleven districts were selected. Bianca Sanchez, a Gaithersburg resident and student in Mrs. Linda Joseph’s fourth grade class at St. Martin’s School, was named winner for District 5, which encompasses the City of Gaithersburg. In her essay, Bianca said that if she were Mayor she would, “help my city grow by resolving issues regarding traffic, buildings, help grow local businesses, and recycle trash to keep my city clean.” Read her full essay here.
Bianca will read her essay at the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council meeting on Monday, June 3, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. The meeting is broadcast live within the city limits on Comcast and RCN channel 13 and FiOS channel 25. It can also be viewed live via streaming video at www.gaithersburgmd.gov.
