Gaithersburg Board of Elections to Discuss 2015 Elections on Jan. 7
The City of Gaithersburg Board of Supervisors of Elections is scheduled to hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at City Hall to discuss the 2015 elections for Mayor and three Councilmembers.
Among the topics to be discussed is location and numbers of polling stations, election equipment, early voting, write-in candidate procedure, and candidate and election judge training.
“We are going to ask them if they think moving forward with optical scanners and paper ballot if the way to go,” said Lauren Klingler, elections clerk at the City of Gaithersburg.
Klinger said in 2013, the City of Gaithersburg spent $22, 144 to rent the scanners, and $17,045 in 2011.
The city clerk said city officials will also verify with former election judges if there need for improvement, what worked for them, and what should be done differently in the 2015 elections.
During the session, Klinger said they hope to go over mandatory election training, candidate deadlines, filing dates for campaign finance reports, among other things.
The meeting is open to the public, but questions will only be taken at the end of the session.
The election will be held on Nov. 3, 2015 and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to fill a mayor and three city councilmember seats.
