Gaithersburg Museum Accepting Damaged U.S. Flags for Retirement

In recognition of Flag Day on June 14, 2014, the Gaithersburg Community Museum will accept worn or damaged U.S. flags to be turned over to the American Legion for a respectful retirement. An American flag that has become worn, tattered or damaged beyond repair requires proper disposal, with burning being the preferred method according to U.S. flag code.

The Community Museum is located at 9 S. Summit Avenue. It is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information please call 301.258.6160, or visit www.gaithersburgmd.gov.

Chartered by Congress in 1919, the American Legion is a patriotic, war-time veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a not-for-profit community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members, men and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide.
