Gaithersburg’s Malcolm King Park Paths to Be Closed for Development Project

Certain paths in the Malcolm King Park in Gaithersburg will be closed starting today for about seven months as work begins for the Washingtonian North Development Project.

The first phase of the development plan includes an entry road and pond, according to a release from the city. Construction will also involve the installation of sewer lines within Malcolm King Park, parallel to the creek. The developers will be conducting stream restoration on the Muddy Branch within the park, and once excavation work is completed, the developer will be repaving the affected pathways and installing a new bikeway, according to the news release.

For safety reasons, areas of the park that will be impacted by the construction will be restricted from public access. Maps, signage, fencing and barricades will be installed.

The construction phase impacting Malcolm King Park is anticipated to last approximately seven months, weather permitting, according to the city.

Washingtonian North, located off of Sam Eig Highway at the Washingtonian Bridge, includes a 240,000 square foot office building, a 128,200 square foot health club, and 366 multi-family dwelling units on approximately 27 acres of land.
